Dinner Music ideas for your reception

Dinner Music Ideas 2015

One area in your wedding where your musical taste can shine is during dinner.  This is a low risk time to be experimental with music if you have alternative tastes or want to include something different in your reception.  Here are some listings of general categories if you are struggling to find just the right music for your event:

American Standards – includes artists like Michael Buble, Frank Sinatra, Harry Connick Jr, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, and Nat King Cole to name a few.  Songs that are popular in this genre are “Come Fly With Me”, “I’ve Got The World On A String”, “L-O-V-E”, “Feelin’ Good”, “Beyond the Sea”, and “Volare”.

Adult Alternative – includes artists like Jack Johnson, Ray Lamontagne, Howie Day, Coldplay, The Fray, Jason Mraz, Amos Lee, David Grayand Matt White to name a few.  Some popular songs in this category are “You are the best thing”, “The Woman I Love”, “Satellite”, “I Won’t Give Up”, “This Year’s Love”, “Lucky Man”, “Sweat Pea”, and “Collide”.

Jazz – includes artists like Lester Young, Charlie Parker, Sarah Vaughn, Richie Cole, Joanna Eden, Hank Mobley, Dexter Gordan, Milt Jackson and Chris Ingram.  Some popular songs in this category are “How Deep Is The Ocean”, “Lover Man”, “Milestones”, “The Nearness of You”, “Walk on by”, “I Can’t Escape From You”, and “Take Five”.

Some other interesting choices that are a little off-the-beaten path (but are still great) include R&B, Neo-Soul, Indie, International/World Music or any mix of the above.

Add Some Fun To Your Reception #2

In this series of posts we will highlight some simple ways to add some additional fun and entertainment to your wedding reception or special event:

The Shoelywed Game

This is a sure fire way to add some light hearted fun and entertainment to your reception.  This game can be used to break up some of the dancing or as an added piece of entertainment during dessert.  It’s also a great way to share some information about the new couple, regardless of the reason, your guests will get a kick out of the Shoelywed game.

The way it works: the Bride & Groom sit back to back on the center of the dance floor.  Each removes both shoes, keeps one and passes the other to their new spouse.  The MC/DJ begins asking fun, light hearted questions about the couple’s relationship.  The fun begins when the couple responds to each question by raising the shoe of the one responsible for the answer.

i.e. Who is the most likely to be late?

Shoelywed Game

(bride raises the shoe she thinks owns that answer, groom does the same at the same time, without looking at the other’s answer.)

If you’d like this added to your event, please tell our team members during your planning session or email us.

Add Some Fun To Your Reception #1

In this series of posts we will highlight some simple ways to add some additional fun and entertainment to your wedding reception or special event:

PHOTO BOOTHPhoto Booth Strips

We offer this service and it’s a hit with your guests.  A great value added to your event, your guests get a permanent memento of your wedding via a photo strip.  With tons of props and fun to be had in the booth, there is no limit to turning up the energy at your event.  Other useful ways to incorporate the photo booth include, making a guest book out of the photo strips after your guests take their picture or creating a social media page for the photos to upload and be shared.
